Sybille SauerIt is now 22 years when I began to occupy myself with dolls. I cannot exactly say what fascinates me on it. When I was a child I had enough dolls to play with and as a substitute for children I also do not need them (as some contemporaries assume). I simply like human beings, especially children. Modelling dolls means for me translating wishes, longings and feelings into a form as a painter paints a picture. The word "doll" does in my opinion not express the right word for this creation. Every collection who buys one of my dolls sees something in the doll that so is only speak to him personally. I do not like my dolls being bought as investment as they are not made for this purpose. It needs many days and weeks to produce a doll from which one has the feeling that it possesses a "soul".To manufacture dolls in larger series is not what I want. I prefer making vario-series. It simply makes more fun to create a new design for every doll. As I must not earn my living from my dolls I can devote time for every doll. When I am not satisfied with a doll it is possible that I dismantle it again completely. It often happens that I sew 3 to 4 dresses and dismantle arms and legs.
My dolls are still popular collection objects as (quotation of a collector) one cannot overlook these "emotional faces".
Long time ago I ceased to participate at competitions. Numerous awards from gold to bronze I received during the past years but I think that these medals are only something for the own ego. Sometime it was more important to me to make dolls for people who have fun at my creations than to please judges with still more extreme and extravagant things.
I would be glad if there were more good events for artists and collectors where one can exchange minds and build new relations.
For the future I hope that the dolls scene will overcome as only men can make dolls who are interested in and love human beings.
